What We Do

Peer support, practical guidance, and community — led by parents who understand.

Oswestry SEN Parents CIC is a peer parent support group. We exist to reduce isolation, build connection, and support parents raising children with SEND, suspected SEND, or emerging additional needs.

Everything we offer is grounded in lived experience and shared understanding — not judgement, pressure, or clinical processes.

Peer Support That Feels Human

Most of our support looks simple — and that’s intentional.

We create space for parents to talk, listen, and feel understood without having to explain everything from the beginning.

  • Informal chats with other parents who get it
  • Listening without judgement or expectation
  • Space to talk things through out loud
  • Shared lived experience — not textbook advice
  • Reassurance that your worries are valid

Sometimes parents come to talk.

Sometimes they come just to listen.

Sometimes they come because they’re exhausted and need to sit in a space where people understand.

All of that is OK here.

In-Person Meet-Ups

We run regular in-person meet-ups at set times and welcoming locations in Oswestry. These are lightly structured spaces — not appointments or formal sessions.

Parent & Carer Sessions

Relaxed spaces for adults to connect and talk openly with others who understand.

Family-Friendly Sessions

Children are always welcome at our parent coffee and natter sessions.

There’s no pressure to share.
No requirement to attend regularly.
No expectation to explain yourself.

Practical Support Alongside Peer Support

Alongside listening and connection, we also offer practical support when parents ask for it. This support is rooted in lived experience and shared knowledge — not professional advice.

Talking Through SEND Systems

We help break down processes in plain English so they feel less overwhelming.

Thinking Through Next Steps

We can help parents reflect on options and feel clearer about what might come next.

EHCP Paperwork Support

Support with understanding or reviewing EHCP-related paperwork.

Drafting Letters & Emails

Help writing or reviewing communication with schools or services.

Forms (e.g. DLA)

Practical guidance when completing forms feels daunting.

Signposting

Sharing local organisations and trusted services that may help.

We do not replace professionals or provide medical or legal advice.

Advocacy — By Request Only

Advocacy is something we offer carefully and by request — not as a default.

  • A supportive phone call
  • Attending a meeting alongside a parent
  • Helping a parent feel confident to speak up

Our Boundaries Matter

Clear boundaries help everyone feel safe. Oswestry SEN Parents CIC:

  • Does not provide medical or legal advice
  • Does not diagnose children
  • Does not offer crisis or emergency support
  • Does not carry out assessments
  • Does not take over decision-making

What we do offer is something many parents struggle to find elsewhere:

Understanding.
Reassurance.
Shared experience.

How We Hope Parents Feel

Above all, we want parents to leave our spaces feeling:

  • Reassured
  • Understood
  • Safe

If you come away feeling a little less alone than when you arrived, we’ve done what we set out to do.
