Meet-Ups & Community
You're welcome, just as you are.
Many of the parents who find us have had difficult experiences in public spaces. They've been judged, excluded, or made to feel unwelcome because of their child's behaviour, their child's overwhelm, or because they themselves are exhausted and stretched thin.
Our community exists to be different.
You don't need to apologise here.
You don't need to explain your child.
You don't need a diagnosis.
How Parents Usually Find Us
Via Our Facebook Group
Some parents join our Facebook group first, where we share updates and keep everyone informed about upcoming meet-ups.
Straight to a Session
Others come straight to an in-person session, often because they’ve been signposted locally or heard about us from another parent.
There’s no right or wrong way to start.
Our In-Person Meet-Ups
We run several different groups and activities, with something happening every week.
All of our meet-ups are:
- Run by parent volunteers who have children with SEND
- Lightly structured, with set times and places
- Focused on being welcoming rather than “getting it right”
Some sessions are aimed at parents and carers, while others are more family-focused.
At Our Parent Coffee & Natter Sessions
Children are welcome.
Siblings are welcome.
There is no expectation that children will sit still or behave in a particular way.
You Are Free To
- Come and leave when you need
- Step outside if things feel too much
- Sit quietly without joining in
- Attend once, occasionally, or regularly
What You Don’t Need to Worry About
Parents often tell us they’re nervous before their first visit. We want to be clear about what isn’t expected.
- No diagnosis is required
- There is no pressure to talk or share
- There is no judgement of children or parents
- You don’t have to commit to anything
- You don’t have to stay if it’s not right for you
Being present is enough.
Our Facebook Group
Our Facebook group is an important part of our community.
It is:
- Moderated
- Parent-focused
- A place to share updates, ask questions, and stay connected
We ask that the group remains a space for parents and carers. Professionals should contact us by email rather than joining the group.
A Note About Capacity
Oswestry SEN Parents CIC is run by parent volunteers, all of whom are also caring for children with SEND.
We respond as best we can and as soon as we’re able, but there may be times when replies aren’t immediate.
We appreciate patience and understanding — and we’re always acting with care.
How to Join Us
If you’re a parent or carer, we recommend joining our Facebook group to stay up to date with meet-ups and community activity.
If you’d prefer to attend an in-person session first, you are very welcome to do so.
Join quietly. Participate when ready. Take things at your own pace.
